GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist medication use and self-reported outcomes in individuals with lipedema: Results from a large online survey.

Srinivasan A, Kartt J, Daftuar F, et al. Obesity pillars. 2026.
Weak / noneOtherMentions: Tirzepatide

Editor's note

Large cross-sectional online survey, which gives it reach but not rigor: respondents self-selected, outcomes are recalled rather than measured, and people who felt better on medication were more likely to keep taking it. The PROMIS-10 gaps between current and never-users are a few points on a scale where five points is usually the meaningful threshold. Tirzepatide was the most common agent but results are pooled across the class, so no drug-specific conclusion is possible. A reasonable hypothesis-generating signal for a condition with few pharmacological options.

Plain-language abstract

An online survey of about 2,700 women with lipedema, a chronic fat-distribution condition, compared those currently using GLP-1 or GLP-1/GIP drugs, mostly tirzepatide, with past users and never-users. Current users reported better physical and mental health scores and lower pain, swelling, and mobility limitation. Because people described their own outcomes from memory, the study can only point to an association worth studying properly.
