Glucagon-like receptor-1 agonists and impotence: A meta-analysis.
Editor's note
Two hundred thirty-seven men across seven heterogeneous studies is a thin base for pooled hormone estimates, and the confidence interval on total testosterone (MD 73.04, CI 16.91 to 129.17) is wide enough to span clinically trivial and clinically meaningful. The analysis is class-level, so semaglutide and tirzepatide appear as search terms rather than as separately estimated arms — nothing here supports an agent-specific effect. Weight loss itself raises testosterone in men with obesity, and the design cannot separate that from any direct drug effect. Directionally reassuring against the post-marketing impotence reports, but no more than that.
Plain-language abstract
This meta-analysis pooled seven small studies covering 237 men to ask what GLP-1 drugs do to erectile function and sex hormones. Pooled results showed improved erectile-function scores and higher total testosterone, SHBG and FSH, with no change in free testosterone or LH. The authors call for larger randomised trials.
