Real-world effectiveness of tirzepatide among youth with type 2 diabetes and/or obesity: a multicenter analysis.
Editor's note
Real-world pediatric data on tirzepatide is scarce, which makes this small multicenter cohort notable despite its limitations. Blood-sugar improvements were the clearer signal — HbA1c fell meaningfully and insulin doses came down — while weight changes were modest at a median 102-day first follow-up. Nearly four in five patients had prior GLP-1 exposure, so these are largely second-line results; without a comparison group, the findings are associations rather than proof of effect.
Plain-language abstract
In 74 patients aged 21 and under across three academic centers, tirzepatide was associated with modest reductions in weight and BMI, and in those with type 2 diabetes, a drop in HbA1c from 8.0 to 7.2 percent along with lower insulin doses — even though most had already tried a GLP-1 drug.
