Seminal Plasma Kisspeptin-1 and Kisspeptin-54 Levels Are Associated With Semen Parameters and Oxidative Stress in Male Infertility.

Korkmaz O, Karabulut S, Macit P Clinical endocrinology. 2026.
Weak / noneCase-controlMentions: Kisspeptin

Editor's note

An observational biomarker study, not an intervention: it measures endogenous kisspeptin in seminal plasma rather than administering anything. The dose-response-like gradient across infertility severity and the link to oxidative stress markers are internally consistent, but 50 participants from a single IVF center is a thin base, and correlation studies of this size often fail to replicate. Relevant context for kisspeptin's role in the reproductive axis; the biomarker claim awaits validation in larger cohorts.

Plain-language abstract

Researchers measured naturally occurring kisspeptin in the seminal fluid of 50 men at a fertility clinic. Men with more severe fertility problems had progressively lower kisspeptin levels, and higher kisspeptin tracked with better sperm concentration and movement, as well as lower oxidative stress. The study suggests kisspeptin could eventually serve as a lab marker in fertility workups, though it looked at the body's own kisspeptin — no one was given the peptide.
