Editor's note
A narrative review synthesizing the cardiometabolic evidence for tirzepatide across the SURPASS and SURMOUNT programs. Because major adverse cardiovascular event outcomes are still under investigation, the reported cardiovascular benefits remain mechanistic and associative pending dedicated trials.
Plain-language abstract
This narrative review summarizes evidence that tirzepatide, beyond lowering blood sugar, is associated with improvements in blood pressure, lipids, visceral fat, and inflammatory markers relevant to cardiovascular health. Dedicated cardiovascular outcome trials are still ongoing.
