In male rats under chronic emotional-painful stress, researchers reported a dose-dependent, liver-protective effect of Semax (ACTH(4-7)PGP, 5 to 450 microg/kg): it normalized the liver's protein-synthesis function and serum ALT activity, with anti-cytolytic effects increasing at higher doses alongside signs of activated reparative processes in liver tissue. This extends Semax's stress-protective effects to a peripheral organ. It is a small preclinical study with histological and biochemical endpoints in a specific stress model; the dose-dependence is a useful detail. Mechanistically broadening, but low clinical weight. These are preclinical findings; human data are needed before clinical conclusions can be drawn.

Chronic stress can damage the liver. This rat study tested whether Semax could protect liver cells during prolonged emotional and physical stress. Male rats received Semax at several doses. The researchers measured liver function through blood markers and by examining liver tissue. Stress tended to harm liver cells, but Semax, more so at higher doses, helped restore the liver's ability to make proteins, brought a liver-damage blood marker (ALT) back toward normal, and reduced cell breakdown while showing signs of tissue repair. The authors link this to the peptide's broad stress-limiting effects. This is laboratory work in rats suggesting Semax may protect the liver under stress; it does not demonstrate a benefit in people and reports no human data.
