The authors frame Semax as having immunomodulating properties warranting further study. This is a small preclinical study with functional immune assays but a specific stress paradigm and no clinical relevance yet. It broadens Semax's mechanism into immune regulation, echoing the anti-inflammatory findings elsewhere in this batch. Stress can throw the immune system out of balance, sometimes overactivating it and sometimes suppressing it. This rat study used a 'social stress' setup, where males experience confrontation, to test whether Semax could steady the immune response. Using several standard immune tests, measuring things like delayed hypersensitivity reactions, antibody-driven clumping, and the germ-eating activity of white blood cells, the researchers found that social stress pushed immune measures in conflicting directions. Semax helped restore these immune reactions toward normal, acting as a kind of corrector. The authors say this shows Semax has immune-tuning properties worth studying further.
