[Antiviral activity of immunomodulator Selank in experimental influenza infection].

This study evaluated Selank's antiviral activity against influenza A/Aichi 2/68 (H3N2) in both cell culture and animals. Researchers reported an antiviral effect in both systems, strongest when Selank was given 24 hours before viral exposure (a pre-exposure schedule): in cell culture this fully suppressed viral reproduction, and in animals it was associated with the highest survival. They also reported that Selank induced interferon-alpha gene expression without changing IL-4, IL-10, or TNF-alpha, and propose a mechanism via modulation of the Th1/Th2/Treg cytokine balance. For Selank, this is a foundational entry in its antiviral/immunomodulatory literature. Weigh it cautiously and mind claims discipline: this is preclinical (cells and lab animals), the strongest effect required pre-exposure dosing, and the abstract's aside that Selank 'has no negative effects' is an unsupported general statement, not an adverse-event finding. Human data are needed before clinical conclusions can be drawn.
