[The role of opioid system in peculiarities of anti-anxiety effect of peptide anxiolytic selank].

They frame this as evidence for the enkephalin-opioid system's role in individual sensitivity to Selank. This study asked whether the body's natural opioid system is involved in Selank's calming effect, using two mouse strains that differ in baseline anxiety and how they react to stress. On its own, Selank reduced anxiety-related behavior in the more anxious BALB/c mice but had no effect in the calmer C57BL/6 mice. When the mice were first given naloxone, a drug that blocks opioid receptors, Selank's calming effect in the BALB/c mice was weakened — but the C57BL/6 mice became more responsive to it. The authors conclude that the opioid system helps determine how strongly an individual responds to Selank. This was a mouse study measuring behavior, and the results went in opposite directions depending on the strain, showing that Selank's effect can depend heavily on the individual. It points to an opioid-related mechanism but is early animal evidence, not a finding about people.
