This preclinical mouse study compared intranasal versus intraperitoneal Selank (300 microg/kg/day for 5 days) on maze behavior and on binding to NMDA and GABA receptors, using two strains: anxious BALB/c and calmer C57BL/6. Researchers reported anxiolytic and nootropic effects only in BALB/c mice, and — notably — a route-dependent receptor signature: intraperitoneal Selank increased GABA-receptor binding sites in the frontal cortex by ~38% with no NMDA change, while intranasal Selank increased NMDA binding by ~23% with no GABA effect. They attribute the divergence to differences in pharmacokinetics and biotransformation. For Selank, often discussed as an intranasal agent, this is a useful mechanistic caveat: delivery route may steer its receptor targets and its effects may depend on baseline anxiety. Weigh it as one rodent dataset with strain- and route-specific findings and no behavioral effect in the low-anxiety strain. These are preclinical findings; human data are needed before clinical conclusions can be drawn.

Selank is often given as a nose spray, so researchers compared giving it through the nose versus by abdominal injection in mice, over five days. They used two mouse strains: one naturally more anxious (BALB/c) and one calmer (C57BL/6), and measured both maze behavior and how much Selank bound to two brain receptor types (GABA and NMDA). The calming and memory-related effects showed up only in the naturally anxious strain. Interestingly, the delivery route changed which receptors were affected: the injection raised GABA-receptor binding sites in the frontal cortex by about 38% without touching NMDA, while the nasal route raised NMDA binding by about 23% without touching GABA. The authors think this happens because the two routes handle the peptide differently in the body. This was a mouse study. It suggests Selank's effects may depend on how it is given and on an individual's baseline anxiety, but those ideas would need testing in people.
