Functional Connectomic Approach to Studying Selank and Semax Effects.

This is one of the rarer human studies on these peptides: a placebo-controlled resting-state fMRI experiment in 52 healthy participants examining how the anxiolytic Selank and the nootropic Semax affect whole-brain functional connectivity. Scans were done before and 5 and 20 minutes after injection. Researchers reported condition- and group-dependent differences in connectivity between the right amygdala (anxiety regulation) and right temporal-cortex regions, describing both shared and peptide-specific effects for the first time. The endpoints are exploratory neuroimaging signals, not clinical or behavioral outcomes, and the sample is modest. Human data here are welcome but preliminary; the study characterizes brain-connectivity changes, not efficacy, and does not support clinical claims about anxiety or cognition.

This is a human brain-imaging study, unusual for these peptides. Fifty-two healthy adults received either Selank (an anti-anxiety peptide), Semax (a peptide studied for focus and memory), or a placebo, and had resting-state MRI scans before and at 5 and 20 minutes after the injection. The researchers looked at how different brain regions' activity was linked (functional connectivity). They found changes in the connection between the right amygdala, a region involved in anxiety, and parts of the right temporal cortex, with some effects shared between the peptides and some specific to each. The abstract reports no adverse events. These are early, exploratory imaging findings in a small group; they describe brain-activity changes, not established benefits, and do not show that the peptides improve anxiety or thinking.
