In nonobese, insulin-resistant MKR mice, researchers reported that hexarelin, a growth hormone secretagogue given twice daily for 12 days, improved glucose and insulin tolerance, lowered plasma and liver triglycerides, and shifted body composition toward less fat and more lean mass, with enhanced white-adipose differentiation. Notably, food intake rose without a net change in body weight. The study extends hexarelin's metabolic story into a lean-but-insulin-resistant context, relevant to lipodystrophy-type phenotypes. Caveats: a genetic mouse model, very short duration, and surrogate metabolic endpoints. These are preclinical findings; human data are needed before any clinical conclusions can be drawn about metabolic uses of hexarelin.

Researchers studied hexarelin, a lab-made peptide, in lean mice that are nonetheless insulin-resistant (a model of metabolic problems without obesity). Mice received hexarelin injections twice daily for 12 days. Treated mice handled glucose and insulin better and had lower fat (triglyceride) levels in blood and liver. Their body composition improved, with less fat and more lean tissue, and their fat tissue matured in a healthier way. They ate more but did not gain overall weight. The authors suggest hexarelin might help with lipid disorders linked to metabolic syndrome. The abstract reports no adverse events. These are preclinical findings in a mouse model; human studies would be needed before any clinical conclusions.
