This is a preclinical study in which GHRP-6 is the actual intervention, administered to rats alongside doxorubicin, a chemotherapy drug that damages the heart. Researchers reported that concurrent GHRP-6 was associated with preserved heart-muscle structure, avoidance of ventricular dilation, and maintained systolic function, plus reduced damage to other organs. Mechanistically they described sustained antioxidant defense, upregulation of the pro-survival gene Bcl-2, and preserved mitochondrial integrity. This is a genuine GHRP-6 signal in a cardioprotection model, but it remains a single-species rodent study with mechanistic and histological endpoints, not a clinical trial. Note the language: the study describes association with reduced damage, not prevention of disease in humans. These are preclinical findings; human data would be needed before clinical conclusions.

Plain-language abstract

Doxorubicin is a powerful chemotherapy drug that can harm the heart. This rat study tested whether giving the peptide GHRP-6 at the same time could limit that harm. Rats received doxorubicin alone or together with GHRP-6, and their hearts were monitored by ultrasound and later examined under the microscope. Rats given GHRP-6 alongside the chemotherapy kept more of their heart-muscle structure, avoided enlargement of the heart's main pumping chamber, and maintained better heart function. GHRP-6 was also linked to less damage in other organs and lower death rates. In the lab, it appeared to boost the cells' antioxidant defenses, switch on a survival gene, and protect the heart cells' energy-producing structures. This is an animal study; the results are promising in rats but do not show what GHRP-6 does in people receiving chemotherapy.
