It also documents the regulatory and commercial context: a temporary 2022 WADA ban (no longer listed) and a surge of patent activity and online sales. Read this as a map of the field and its commercial momentum rather than evidence of benefit. As with the wider literature, the underlying data are preclinical; these are mechanistic signals, and human data are needed. Plain-language abstract

This article reviews what has been published about BPC-157 and also looks at the patents filed on it. The authors summarise how, in animal and laboratory studies, the peptide has shown a wide range of possible effects on tissue injury, bowel inflammation, and the nervous system, and they note that relatively few side effects have been reported. At the same time, they are clear that BPC-157 has not been approved by the FDA or other regulators because there are not yet enough thorough human studies. They describe how the peptide was briefly banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency in 2022, is no longer on that banned list, and has attracted growing commercial interest, including many websites selling it. The review is a survey of the field rather than proof that the peptide works.
