[Effects of epithalon and cortagene on immunity and hemostasis in neonatally hypophysectomized chicken and old birds].

Read it as a striking but unreplicated preclinical signal. These are preclinical findings; human data are needed before clinical conclusions can be drawn.

By 45 days old, the operated chicks had developed anaemia (low red blood cells), weakened immune defences, excessive blood clotting, and reduced clot breakdown. The same operation in older birds caused smaller changes. When the birds were given injections of the peptide epithalon for 40 days, the researchers reported that the abnormalities in red cells, immunity, and clotting were fully corrected. A very similar peptide called cortagene — which differs by just one building-block amino acid — did not produce these effects, suggesting the exact structure of the peptide matters.
