Researchers cultured immune cells from pulmonary tuberculosis patients before and after TB treatment and tested whether the peptide epitalon could reduce two measures of genome instability: chromosome aberrations and fragile-site expression. They reported that patients' cells carried more structural chromosome aberrations than healthy controls' both before and after treatment, that epithalon showed a pronounced protective effect on chromosome aberrations after treatment (lowering aberrant-cell frequency), but that the high frequency of chromosome fragile sites persisted despite peptide exposure. This is a case-control laboratory study on patients' cells in culture, not a treatment trial — the endpoint is a cytogenetic marker, not a clinical TB outcome. The mixed result (aberrations improved, fragile sites did not) is worth noting and argues against over-reading it. It fits epitalon's proposed genome-stability theme, a line dominated by one research lineage. Human clinical data are needed before conclusions can be drawn.

Tuberculosis can run in families, so researchers looked for a cell-level marker — genome stability — that might flag people at higher risk. They grew immune cells from tuberculosis patients, taken before and after TB treatment, and tested whether the peptide epitalon could improve the stability of the cells' chromosomes. They measured two things: structural chromosome damage (aberrations) and 'fragile sites' where chromosomes tend to break. Patients' cells showed more chromosome damage than cells from healthy people, both before and after treatment. Epithalon reduced the amount of chromosome damage in cells taken after treatment. However, the high rate of fragile sites stayed the same whether or not the cells were exposed to the peptide. This was a laboratory study on cells in dishes, not a study of treating patients; it reported no clinical outcomes and no side effects, and the peptide only affected one of the two markers measured.
