A meta-analysis of placebo-controlled randomized trials, using Cochrane RoB 2 and GRADE, so the evidence base is relatively strong. Semaglutide was associated with lower liver enzymes and roughly double the odds of NASH resolution, alongside weight and HbA1c improvements. The effect on fibrosis stage was not statistically significant, and gastrointestinal adverse events were more common, so read the results as promising but not settled.

This meta-analysis pooled placebo-controlled trials of subcutaneous semaglutide in adults with fatty liver disease. It reported reductions in liver enzymes and a higher likelihood of NASH resolution, while the effect on fibrosis stage stayed uncertain.
